Connecting North Lakes

The $16.5 million Moreton Bay Regional Council road will connect the suburbs via a new bridge being built by developer Stockland.

Councillor Julie Greer (Div 4) said Plantation Rd would link Old Gympie Rd, with the bridge being built over the Bruce Highway.

“The bridge is being built by Stockland between Anzac Ave and Boundary Rd and will join council’s Plantation Rd,” she said.

Plantation Rd will be a two-lane road with bicycle and pedestrian pathways and have the capacity to expand to four lanes in the future.

“When complete, local residents will be able to travel with ease between North Lakes and Dakabin,” Cr Greer said.

“I’m very excited to see this important piece of road infrastructure¬† beginning to take shape.”

However, Stockland could not confirm when construction on the bridge would begin.

Stockland project director for North Lakes Richard Rhydderchn said the project highlighted how council and the private sector could work together effectively to deliver local infrastructure improvements.

“This project was born from community consultation and will result in even better road access for people driving in and out of North Lakes,” he said.

The “Dakabin Link Road Project”, as it was first known, also includes a significant upgrade of the intersection of Alma and Old Gympie roads.

“It’s a regional building project that will help to deliver improvements to congestion and road connectivity in one of Australia’s fastest growing areas,” Cr Greer said.

“Construction of the new road is expected to be complete by late 2013, weather permitting.”

North Lakes Connection Bridge

Work started in February on a $13 million bridge being built over the Bruce Highway which will provide a direct link between North Lakes and Dakabin. The bridge, being built by North Lakes developer Stockland, is due for completion in September 2014.

It will be located between Anzac Avenue and Boundary Road and will join the newly completed Plantation Road works on the western side of the highway

This infrastructure will connect Dakabin and Kallangur with the North Lakes Business Park and
Town Centre. This is an important new link as the Business Park
and Town Centre have become one of the most significant commercial hubs of the Moreton Bay region
