QGC opens new ‘nerve centre’ in heart of Surat Basin

More than 100 people attended the inauguration, including local councillors, representatives of contractors and community groups and staff.

The facility, built by Queensland’s Hutchinson Builders, incorporates a 24-hour control room where QGC can monitor and regulate the operation of wells, processing facilities and the pipeline that will supply gas to Gladstone for export.

The information is shared with a monitoring centre in Brisbane that will also oversee operations in Gladstone.

The new 2800sq m building accommodates about 130 people focused on activities as varied as landholder liaison, environmental compliance and indigenous relations.

QGC operations director Walter Simpson told the gathering, “We at QGC have a simple goal: to be the best producer of natural gas in Australia.”

QGC is establishing one of Australia’s largest capital infrastructure projects to turn Queensland’s world-class gas reserves into liquefied natural gas.
